Default Scientists have broken the speed of light

'We have broken speed of light'

A pair of German physicists claim to have broken the speed of light - an achievement that would undermine our entire understanding of space and time.

According to Einstein's special theory of relativity, it would require an infinite amount of energy to propel an object at more than 186,000 miles per second.

However, Dr Gunter Nimtz and Dr Alfons Stahlhofen, of the University of Koblenz, say they may have breached a key tenet of that theory.

The pair say they have conducted an experiment in which microwave photons - energetic packets of light - travelled "instantaneously" between a pair of prisms that had been moved up to 3ft apart.

Being able to travel faster than the speed of light would lead to a wide variety of bizarre consequences.

For instance, an astronaut moving faster than it would theoretically arrive at a destination before leaving.

I find this to be very exciting stuff. And believe it is the beginning of light travel.
Its funny how we see people 100 years ago as being primitive. And in 100 years from now people will see us as being primitive.
If you dont think someday we wont be able to travel at warp speed your saddly mistaken. Its just a matter of time! This is ground breaking technology and is indeed the beginning of the future. We are primitive and have barely scratched the surface. New ideals are just waiting to be discovered and each and every day.

    You must be a capricorn??

What theory do you have that compells you to say that? Thoug i remain open to the prediction.

    Read anything on naustradaumus?

You would also be amazed to find out that the speed of light isn't a constant either. Bet you didn't know that one?
The speed of light over time has been shown to be gradually slowing down.

I saw this on slashdot a week ago...this might shed some 'light' on things.

Light seems to defy its own speed limit

Aephraim Steinberg, a quantum optics expert at the University of Toronto, Canada, doesn't dispute Nimtz and Stahlhofen's results. However, Einstein can rest easy, he says. The photons don't violate relativity: it's just a question of interpretation.

He defines novelty, of course, as "the density of connectedness" or the "degree of complexity." The I Ching says that Time is a series of identifiable elements in flux. There are 64 of these "elements." He also believes that what we today call the I Ching is but a tiny fragment of a once immense device, now forever lost.

According to my calculations it will end 3 days earlier, on Dec 21, 2012.

This was an interesting article to me but I didn't have anything to add, except for my alternate calculation for the world's ending time.

I didn't have a chance to read the articles: can someone give me a rundown on if they took into consideration the calendar-Julian or Gregorian, or the 2.5 weeks we lost in the 18th century?

I just want to make sure that I get a chance to eat that last big artery-clogging heart stopping meal on the right day!!!

    Default Discovery is old hat!

The understanding of particles disapearing at a point source and reppearing at another point instantly has been noted for many decades now, this is nothing new.

Example, in a cloud chamber, a particle can seem to dissapear and reappear in another apart of the cloude chamber and finish off its trajectory, say a spiral path, irrespective of space and time.

Also, a partcle, or energy form( photon) if travelling in opposite directions will induce a conected strong physical force no matter how great the distance is.

Another example is if two electrons are fired in opposite directions and after both travelling 10 meters (so they are 20 metres apart) one is given a clockwise spin, then instantly, the spin of the other electron will start to spin in the same orientation??? Action at a distance beyond convential understanding has been observed many many times. This experiment has been proformed all over the world!

Also two photons can merge and dissapear and reappear at another point regardless of time and space, again this can be replicated in the laboratory.

I do not believe the speed of light is a constant, only our naive understanding of the universe and simplistic analysis makes us think that its a constant.

I put a paper forward some years ago on the topic which was published all over the world.

Lets pretend the speed of light is a constant and lets also assume that the universe in expanding, that means all matter also, the very fabric of atoms also expands. Light is only ever emmited from electrons jumping to smaller orbits.

so lets imagine the whole universe expands to twice its size, would we know?

Well, according to convential thinking, yes, for we would see that the speed of light has doubled in speed because we can measure this you say, well nope, because, our measurements have also doubled, all matter has doubled!!

so light, still appears to be travelling at the same speed, we could expand to be 50 times larger than what we are now along with all matter and still, light would seem to be travelling at the same speed. The density of materials would still appear to be the same, rulers or any measurement device would have expanded also!

Now, here comes the twist, E= MC^2 still stands, but there is no absolute reference point regards measurement?

now, given the explaination of what I have just said and knowing this will stand up regards any testing, theretical or practical, I have just proved conclusively right here on this board that the speed of light only appears to be a constant, if the universe expands to twice its size, the speed of light then travels twice as fast to cover the same distance if we take the orginal distance as absolute and had a magical way of having units that were not affected by the expansion of atoms. But it will always appear to travel the same speed if measured at the same instance it is travelling in.

If we are expanding, then the speed of light would have been slower near the beginning of time, we can never measure this effect because this would have travelled past us long ago as light can travel faster than the expansion of the universe!

I could go deeper than this and show evdience that OLD light, travelling from different places in space can be red shifted or blue shifted due to the gravitational forces at hand and the density of the universe from where the light travelled from and not only from galaxies travelling to and from us to mimic the same effect.

The whole concept is open to conjecture, but it was Einsteins Wife that did all the calculations and formulas, not albert unfortunately.

This paper was put forward over 20 years ago and shows in simple Laymens terms, that the speed of light can be different, it only appears to be constant

there is no way to be within a meal accurate.. leap year isnt even absolutely correct, and then there are tons of other things to consider in history, those of which i dont know, but am guessing happened.. i would do what i do, which is eat whatever you want, whenever you want.. go by the 50% rule, which is as long as your under 50% body fat, your ok..
