David Morris: What would Wellstone have done? He would have fought.

The Geneva Conventions. The writ of habeas corpus.
    Presidential power. Torture.

    Paul Wellstone

Four years ago this month Paul Wellstone was taken from us. Today, more than ever, American politics suffers from his absence.

Just days ago, Senate Democrats agreed not to filibuster a bill allowing the president to detain indefinitely, even for life, any alien, whether in the United States or abroad, whether a foreign resident or a lawful permanent resident. The bill denies prisoners the right to challenge their detention in court.

Why would Democrats allow 51 senators to eliminate one of the fundamental pillars of free societies? I imagine it was because their pollsters told them a vigorous opposition would lose them votes in the coming election as Republicans pummeled them for being soft on terrorism.

Paul would have filibustered. That would almost certainly have delayed a Senate vote until after the election, enabling Americans to more clearly demonstrate how they stand on the 800-year-old right of habeas corpus.

Three weeks before he died, Paul voted against war in Iraq. At the time, his opponent was aggressively accusing Paul of being weak on national security. Polls told Paul a vote against war would lose him the election. But as he told the Washington Post two days after the vote, "I think people want you to do what you think is right ... ." And added, in typical Wellstone fashion, "how would I have had the enthusiasm and the fight if I had actually cast a vote I didn't believe in? I couldn't do that."

A few days later Paul delighted in the fact that his vote resulted in a surge of support among Minnesotans, a surge that almost certainly would have led to his reelection.

Paul knew how to filibuster. Singlehandedly, his filibusters prevented a remarkably inequitable bankruptcy bill from being passed while he was in the Senate.

And he knew how to speak truth to power. When Exxon, the No. 1 oil company, gobbled up No. 2 Mobil, and the No. 1 grain company, Cargill, devoured runner-up Continental Grain, and the No. 1 bank, Citicorp, snapped up Travelers Insurance, the silence from Washington was deafening.

The New York Times, commenting about the Exxon-Mobil merger, observed, "scarcely a politician of any stripe headed for the cameras" to question "whether the $76 billion deal was good for the country, for workers or for consumers." Except one: "Senator Paul Wellstone, the Minnesota Democrat who is among the few in Congress still exercised about the concentration of corporate power ... ."

In 1996, Paul was among the very few who voted against the Telecommunications Act. He argued it would lead to concentrated ownership. He was right. Over the next 22 months, more than 1,000 radio stations were sold. Some 450 owners left the field. Single companies now dominate local radio broadcasting.

In 1996, Paul bravely voted against ending the nation's commitment to the poor. Again, he was the only politician running for reelection who did so. "If you want to reduce poverty, stop scapegoating people," he said. "Start focusing on a good education and a good job."

Paul Wellstone proposed as well as opposed. For example, when the United States tried one more time to join the rest of the industrialized world in making access to medical care a right, not a privilege, Wellstone helped organize a grass-roots coalition that gained considerable support in Congress in favor of a system similar to Canada's 30-year-old program: a single insurer, local control, and private suppliers.

But it was in his opposition that he most clearly demonstrated both his character and his uniqueness. Four years after his death, we sorely miss his courage and leadership.

    Default They Killed Senator Wellstone

Sen. Paul Wellstone: More Proof of Assassination

by Jim Fetzer (with Dennis Cimino)

The day of the crash, a Friday, I was being interviewed in my office at the University of Minnesota Duluth about the death of JFK by a reporter for a weekly alternative newspaper in Duluth, THE RIPSAW. We listened to intermittent reports about the tragedy, including that emergency workers had not had access to the plane, which was still burning hours after the crash.

This led me to ask myself, “So how do they actually know that he is dead?” When we ended our conversation several hours later, he remarked that the contents of the “black box” should be important. I told him there wouldn’t be one.

I would compose ten columns for another alternative paper, READER WEEKLY, which are archived onassassinationscience.com, co-author a book about his death with a Native American scholar from Northern Arizona University, Don “Four Arrows” Jacobs, AMERICAN ASSASSINATION (2004), and fly from Australia to Minnesota a close friend and collaborator on JFK research, especially in relation to the Zapruder film, John P. Costella, Ph.D., a physicist with electromagnetism as his area of specialization, where he and I would explore the crash site together in the dead of winter, picking up pieces of the charred wreckage in 35*F below weather.

Thanks to Jim Fetzer for his excellent investigation of Senator Wellstone's murder. Below are a few disturbing cuts from his article:

..."The NTSB would spend a day and a half searching for the black box, which, it would later conclude, had never been on the plane. Reports were circulating that the cause of the crash might never be known. But the circumstances of the death of the most out-spoken progressive in the United States Senate, only ten days before an election, whose outcome would determine the control of the Senate, was troubling to many Minnesotans. A survey that evening by THE ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS would show that 69% of the respondents thought his death was the result of “a GOP conspiracy.”

Others shared those sentiments. Michael I. Niman, a professor from Buffalo State College, would soon publish a column raising the possibility that Senator Wellstone had been murdered. Christopher Bollyn, of americanfreepress.com, observed that the FBI had arrived on the scene from the Twin Cities surprisingly fast, seemingly too fast in relation to what might have been expected.

Using very minimal times, I would later calculate that, for its “rapid response team” to have arrived at the scene by noon, it would have had to have left St. Paul around 9:30 that morning, about the same time that the Senator’s plane was departing for Eveleth-Virginia–which would be an extraordinary feat of prognostication.

    The Political Context
Niman was clearly right about the political motives of the White House for taking him out; the question was whether it was reasonable to suppose it might go that far. In this context, a report from Michael Ruppert, fromthewilderness.com, was especially disturbing, when he explained that he had been contacted by a former CIA operative familiar with the conduct of assassinations, who told him it had been a hit and “having played ball (and still playing, in some respects) with this current crop of reinvigorated old white men, these clowns are nobody to screw around with. There will be a few more strategic accidents. You can be sure of that.” ...

..."The situation was serious. To the White House, this guy was a menace. He might have filibustered the Homeland Security Act. He opposed them on tax cuts, the SEC, and the war on Iraq. He wanted to investigate 9/11! In the Senate, he had become an obstacle to the exercise of power. Are there any conceivable ramifications that could have been more severe than assassinating the Senate’s most liberal member?...

    Why He was Taken Out
"Seymour Hirsch disclosed recently that Vice President Cheney was running “an executive assassination ring”from his office in the White House, where Wellstone appears to have been one of his targets. When we apply scientific reasoning to cases like this one, we discover that the truth may not be what the papers print or what our government tells us about them. The motivation to take him out must have been overwhelming. He was pulling away from St. Paul Mayor Norm Coleman, the hand picked candidate of Karl Rove. He was defying the odds and threatening the vaunted Bush machine.

By October 25, 2002, Wellstone’s lead over Coleman had grown to 6 or 7 points and was increasing. He had told others that Vice President Dick Cheney had warned him against opposing the administration on Iraq and that the Bush administration will do whatever is necessary to get you. There will be severe ramifications for you and the state of Minnesota."

..."Proof of assassination is not proof of conspiracy. But the existence of a cover up is a powerful indication of complicity in a crime. If the motive and the opportunity are evident, it may be worth observing that Raytheon not only owns Beechcraft, which manufactures the A-100, but also makes high-tech weapons of the kind that could have been used to take it down. Which means that this knowledge was accessible to the administration. Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, and Donald Rumsfeld may not have executed this hit personally, but they were in the position to make it happen. It has taken 40 years to unlock the cover up in the case of JFK. Surely we can do better for Paul Wellstone..."

Democratic Senator To Be Assassinated Soon
    Assassination Teams Actively Preparing Hit

    First Published May 25, 2001

Within months, one of a selected group of democratic Senators, likely
from a state with a Republican Governor, will meet an untimely death.
The death will appear to be either a plane 'accident' or by 'natural
causes,' - whichever is most easily accomplished. The reality will in
fact be that the Senator was one of a group of several Senators
(Narrowed down into a group of 'Selects') targeted for assassination
and was the one who was in the right place at the right time for the
    most convenient and clean "hit.?

You will see, within in the coming months, for absolutely certainty,
the untimely death of at least one Democratic Senator, to "rebalance
the scale". The private covert intelligence groups behind George Bush
Sr. are extraordinarily well funded with petrochemical billions. They
are deadly, work completely autonomously, in a terrorist formation
identical to a terrorist organization, and are absolutely religiously
dedicated to accomplishing their objectives. They will not rest until
the Senate is under the control once again of the darkest force ever
to seize control of the American Empire - The clandestine
industrial / military / intelligence triad who is currently
    represented by George Bush Jr.

Few have the ability to comprehend the machinations of this dark
force. It is beyond the scope of our 'Journalists.'

"Congress has no oversight of it. It’s an executive assassination ring essentially, and it’s been going on and on and on. Just today in the Times there was a story that its leaders, a three star admiral named [William H.] McRaven, ordered a stop to it because there were so many collateral deaths.

"Under President Bush’s authority, they’ve been going into countries, not talking to the ambassador or the CIA station chief, and finding people on a list and executing them and leaving. That’s been going on, in the name of all of us. ~ Seymour Hersch

How did you manage to prophetize this hit? This ability or whatever it was makes you also a target as 'enemy of the state'. This rather large deadly group has got better and better at protecting their interests over the decades since one of their prime successes, the hit on JFK. Their supreme treason effort was 911. We have seen the lengths they will go to in silencing those they consider a threat to their survival. There is a long list already of those, now deceased. It must be time for this dread cabal to reap what they have sowed for so long.

Good catch, Brother Dodo. But there are some here who are not interested in reading facts, even if they concern the mysterious death of Senator Wellstone... and even if they are presented so precisely in book form from two respected professors. Some here would never believe Big Dick would ever stoop so low as to get rid of an enemy, even if he was American, and even if his demise might well have rendered great benefit unto Dick, his country, God, Jesus, and especially, ... the GOP.

..."author Philip Marshall and his two children were shot and killed in a 2012 black ops hit"... (Marshall was a friend of Barry Seal)

Barry Seal was another hit, of those who knew too much, by the Poppy Cabal. Hunter S Thompson was another, "Tom Clancy was killed because he was getting too close to a secret they don’t want the world to know".

Tom Clancy drops dead. Cause of death unknown. Michael Hastings killed in a suspicious car crash. Andrew Breitbart goes out for a late-night walk and mysteriously drops dead. His body is described as bright red. His coroner, Michael Cormier dies with a high concentration of arsenic in his system, on the day he is to deliver his findings on Breitbart's cause of death.

Clancy, Hastings and Breitbart had been communicating for some time. They were rumored to have information that could seriously affect Obama's presidency.

Countless deaths concerning cocaine and Mena. Many deaths around Barry and his Chicago church. SO many deaths around those who knew too much about 911. Senator Paul Wellstone (and other politicians) whose plane has exploded or crashed in mysterious circumstances added to the long and growing list. These bad guys will stop at nothing to eliminate a risk. They will even shoot children (and dogs) with silenced weapons (Marshall). These are psychopathic killers.

Now I understand why Americans for the most part are reluctant to discuss these matters. They are afraid... very afraid. And they have every reason to be afraid of their own government.

He would have made a much better president than Dubya or Barry... which is why he had to go.

According to Lt. Col. Bailey, Lt. Uthlaut, Cpl. Tillman’s platoon commander, had misunderstood his order to have boots on the ground “by dusk”, which Lt. Uthlaut had misheard as boots on the ground “by dawn

The stunning revelation from our nation’s premiere investigative reporter, Seymour Hersh, that Vice President Dick Cheney was running an “executive assassination ring” directly under his control and outside of the normal chain of command has raised the specter that the Vice President of the United States may have been murdering Americans.
