Backcounting & Wonging Obsolete in the New America at MGM Properties

MGM has announced their 7 point safety plan for the pandemic era America when they reopen the doors to their properties. I'm sure this will be the policies of other major casinos as well. Now I'm sure people will be able to sit at a 6 or 8 deck blackjack game and backcount the deck and then jump in when the true count gets favorable, but that will blow blackjack counters cover and help to expose their play to the casino. The days of standing behind someone and counting down the decks is over! It's done.

"Expect no more buffet-style meals, plexiglass barriers and handwashing stations on the casino floor, physical distancing at slot machines and fewer players at card tables and digital room keys in hotels. The bottom line: The days of gambling like James Bond in a heated game while people crowd the card table to admire your winnings are a thing of a past."Employees will discourage players from standing (except Craps) and guests will be asked not to stand beside or behind players," the MGM Resorts reopening plan states. MGM Resorts in mid-March shuttered its entertainment properties amid the coronavirus crisis."

Nice post Blitzer. I never noticed anyone standing behind a table waiting to pounce. I've seen alot. Watched a hooker work price with two Johns a few times.

I dont try to witness anything. But there seems to be a daily occurance of "wow, never saw that before."

Before the casino closures people standing behind players at a blackjack table or carnival game was a common occurrence. Now it's really going to be discouraged. The whole American society for the most part is on tilt and you can tell by the number of mask wearers in public, a lot of people are scared. Some local governments have mandated that people must wear a mask in certain places so some people have to play by the rules or they get fined.

From first hand experience, I can attest to similar new rules at Caesars' properties (Paris/Flamingo). Friends were not allowed to stand behind players. And even with the so called six foot, social distancing rule, they did not allow standing close to tables. Makes backcounting more difficult. But like anything else, it seems to be YMMV. I didn't see the problem on the 8 deck shoes but I did see more enforcement behind double deck games. (as of early July)
