    Default Racist Offensive Plops

I ran into a Chinese guy today how placed a small bet. He drew queens and split. Another 10 pops and he splits. I believe all he wanted was to see an American lose. Specifically, me. The next hand I had a 6 and asked him if he wanted the double down. He said no. I was making large bets all night with a 195 roll. Reason #3 why people lose. Will I be going back any time soon. No. He may still be there.

I lost $195.00. Yes. I am fuming. Not over the 195. Not over the streak ending. I'm fuming over China as a whole and Chinese men. Why would they come here just to cause harm to Americans? If I go very much further, the thread may be deleted.

My idea of racism at the table has nothing to do with Chinese. A majority of the hostile encounters I've had with players at the table have involved blacks (people, not chips). With as many people who use this site I'm sure there are black AP's here too, but an observation is an observation.

But don't tell me there aren't Chinese racists. I play at Foxwoods and I know there are plenty of them who prefer not to play with a roundeye, and I've seen them get up and leave the table if a black person sits down. Don't forget that race is a Western concept, and the idea that it is bad to be a racist is also a Western concept. In Africa or Asia it is perfectly acceptable for a tribesman to say he prefers the company of his own tribe, or caste, or ethnic group or whatever it is they call it in his world. I am happy to play with people of any race at the table. Most Chinese are OK, but I must admit, people from certain countries south of China have some very annoying languages and habits.

The one I am noticing lately- some people from east Asia believe it is unhealthy to bathe when the weather is cold... and it has been very cold recently.

Just going by my personal experience, black players are by far the most likely to get very angry when you "misplay" your hand, or get annoyed when you switch between one or two hands.

Also a majority of people who have no idea what they are doing and slow the table down to a grinding halt are african american.

Not being racist here, just sharing my experience.

Any time some one says "I'm not racist.....", chances are they are racist. How many times have you heard I am not a racist, I have black friends"

Furthermore, anytime you catagorize a group of people like you just did when you said "black players are far more likely to get angry" or jewish people are cheap, polish are dumb, irish drink too much, ect It is all racism!

I am not sure what the point of this thread is though. Of course racism and intolerance exists at the tables. It exists in every aspect of live. Even here on BJinfo (especially in the ZONE!)

Maybe what we're overlooking is that as AP's we have to be prepared for any kind of abuse. If mere ethnic terminology is unbearable to you, how is it going to be when a ploppy jumps out of his chair and starts screaming that and worse at you because you just split 10's?

Never forget that the vast majority of the people you encounter in casinos are ignorant fools, and they are going to talk like ignorant fools. It is the same stupidity that compels people to be racist that compels them to feed the casinos that we then feed upon. So don't complain too much. If they were intelligent they wouldn't be there, and neither could we.

AM, on a side note, what persona do you adopt at the table, and how do you respond to such abuse? Are you a passive recipient, simply ignoring most of it or responding with pleasantries such as "Next time I'll do it your way"?

Something tells me that you are not.

I am a belligerent drunk. So I usually scream back at them, and if their abuse happens to be racial I reverse that too. I.e. if I am "white boy" then you must be "black boy." If it's a female I'll be a bit beastly: "This is a man's game. I won't tell you how to breastfeed a baby, and you don't tell me how to play cards."

In casinos that don't serve free alcohol I cannot consume enough to appear drunk without hurting my EV. So I will often completely ignore them, sometimes even simulating the symptoms of autism. Or I'll say something like "Sorry, I just smoked so much crack I can't even think straight."

Not being a lawyer and not knowing exactly what "freedom of speech" covers makes it difficult to answer your question but I'm quite certain there would be an uproar if replays were aired at this time.
Out of curiousity, is anyone else here old enough to remember that radio program and if so, do you agree with my description and assertion?

Amos and Andy was a hilarious comedy show, but it did nothing at all to help change the stereotypical view of blacks. It wasn't until we got shows like I Spy and the Cosby Show that television began painting blacks in terms of intelligent, savvy, and articulate human beings. As the African American population grows more and more in self esteem, independent thinking, accomplishment, and societal standing (they may already be there), those kinds of shows will be better tolerated by blacks (they may already be), just as shows about silly or funny whites are tolerated by whites. It's easy to laugh at yourself when you're on top, but difficult when you've been down as long as you can remember.

When I was a child, I remember seeing black men digging ditches by the Pentagon. I thought to myself, "I wonder why God made black men to dig ditches and black women to clean white people's homes?" I had never seen blacks employed in any other capacity. When I met a black school teacher who worked with me at the local post office, I was stunned to discover an educated black person. You younger people here cannot imagine just how insulated and separated blacks and whites were from each other.

The fact that blacks had their own restrooms in public places, clearly marked "Colored," made one think that blacks must be very dirty and carry diseases. Blacks were required to sit in the back of public buses and streetcars. Blacks were only allowed to live in certain designated neighborhoods. Blacks could not patronize segregated businesses. A white person with a black friend was designated a n#gger lover. A white women with a black man was considered unnatural; she must be a whore, a n#gger lover--how disgusting! My own Mother claimed she was not at all prejudiced, but she wouldn't want one of "them" touching her.

The myths about blacks abounded: Given the chance, black men would rape white women. Blacks were thieves and robbers. Blacks were dumb as dirt. Blacks were one step removed from the ape. Blacks had rhythm because their ancestors danced around campfires in darkest Africa--they were called "jungle bunnies." Blacks hated whites and would slice you up with their straight razors. Blacks were just not as good as whites, no question about it.

Now flash forward to today. No more black restrooms. No more sitting in the back of the bus. No more denial of service. No more prohibition from attending white schools. No more prohibition about living in white designated neighborhoods. Many blacks have college degrees--I play pool with a black guy with a PhD in mathematics who has taught college Quantitative Analysis and Statistics, and operated his own business for many years. He also is a black belt in Karate and teaches martial arts. And, you don't want to mess with him--he's about six foot twenty! lol

Times have changed so dramatically since I was a child, it may be very difficult for you younger members to appreciate the advancement of blacks in American society in such a very short time. Some of the older members here may remember the freedom marches; some probably marched in them. For the first time, many white Americans were actually reaching out to bring an end to the institutionalized wrongs of two hundred years. It was a major and long overdue revolution.

Aslan,so all is now well and good??

    I don't think so...not by a long shot.

Interesting though, to see an all powerful group, as the caucasians, willingly give up the seat of power, the Presidency, to a very minority group, and to a member of that minority group who has no American Black Blood, to soothe their guilt for what some of their forefathers did 160 years ago. A very strange sight to behold, and one I view as extreme weakness.

As a Cheyenne you learn never to give up your power to any other tribe, but to cherish it and cling to it. Equal rights is well and good and just, but to cede your power,,,, so willingly,,,,,amazing... amazing to behold.

    !)

Today the word "racist" is used too broadly. In many discussions the word "predjudiced" is more appropriate. If I have hatred for people of a different race, or, I feel my race is superior, I am a racist. If I prefer to only live in a neighborhood made up primarily of my own race, I then, am predjudiced.

1st off I'm sorry for keeping this thread going but I just HAD to comment. Avoiding the whole racism part of things as anyone of any race can be racist I do wonder why anyone would think it would matter what the other person did with their hand. Your hand is played independent of theirs, neither of you know what is going to come out of the shoe next, it only means that a specific card will or won't be in the shoe. Follow strategy and keep the count, who cares if the other guy isn't making the smart plays.

    Default Racist Offensive Plops

I've been counting for 10 years. And I've learned to ignore rec-ploppy players. But at one of my best stores, there's a couple regulars who keep calling me racial slurs. As I find the term nigger to be extremely offensive. Should I stop playing? Should I complain about the use of the word nigger?... How many times can you say the offensive word or phrase before being banned?

Really? We don't play the Cracker and Nigger game here at the Zone. If someone pisses me off I'll either kick their ass or tell them to go fuck off! Grow some balls and learn to stand up for yourself.
