Is there practice software available like Smart Cards that will handle the Spanish 21 game? I am always trying to improve my game,

I don't have a clue unless you can write your own program to your specific liking. After doing a quick search on the internet it seems like hitorsplit.com is probably the better strategy trainer for SP21 as far as software goes that I've seen. There is also a practice mode there that has a basic strategy chart of the rules which you can look at while you play, and the rules can be tweaked. Of course you can also do it the old fashioned way by printing off the basic strategy for the game and dealing out the hands yourself, that way you can work on a counting system while simultaneously dealing out 7 player hands and a dealer hand. The more hands and strategy decisions the player can see in a training phase, the better. The screen size at hitorsplit needs to be increased to a full size screen which would make the game better and the cards easier to see. That's the biggest improvement they need to make to that trainer.

I tried hitorsplit.com but you see a 5-card ten about every 300 hands. It doesn't help with the most difficult spanish hands. I asked the seller of Smart Cards if the company plans to launch a spanish 21 edition to their software.

I would presume that your not going to get a 5-card ten
that often in Spanish, to me hitorsplit is more about learning the differences between the strategy decisions in blackjack and Spanish 21. Unless you could create your own version where the maximum superscript of the most difficult hands only get played out which I would enjoy that's what your left with or you could get 6 decks and start dealing yourself. Besides for slight differences in rules and strategy, to me Spanish 21 is a lot like playing blackjack and I don't find it to be that much more difficult basic strategy wise once when playing decisions start becoming memorized.

I still think it would beneficial to have a program that would identify playing, counting and betting errors. Extreme Blackjack could bridge the gap or an enterprising sort could reverse engineer the software so it could be geared to the Spanish 21 game.

It would be helpful. If you don't have a Spanish 21 simulator to play it would also be beneficial busting out the cards and dealing the game to yourself. That way you can deal out the set amount of hands you want and vary them at any time while employing basic strategy and counting the game. I think learning that way is equally important if not more before playing the game in the casino, it's more realistic. You don't always have to play with chips either to slow things up in the beginning, I like to mix things up. It would save time to check out the casinos rules for the game in your area while leaning in that manner. I don't make up excuses for why I cannot play a game anytime I want. I've never heard of Extreme Blackjack but programming a Spanish 21 game shouldn't be any harder than programming a blackjack game for people who can do that.

Neither Richard Reid's SmartCards, nor the earlier rendition (my favorite) NeUltra included Span21.

Bust out the cards Sven. I may purchase Walkers book but before I take a serious approach to learning more about this game I'm going to do a little scouting to see if the game is offered within my area. I'll probably have to scout on the weekend when they have the most table games open. http://www.lulu.com/shop/katarina-wa...t-2705962.html

Well, I've got a copy of 6-7-8 and I use that to play the game. It's good enough I guess. But I would strongly recommend taking up Spanish 21 because counting it works better than counting does for blackjack especially using an unbalanced level 3 system where you have an unbalance of +4 per deck. Dravot needs to produce a book titled, "The Color of Spanish 21." I wonder if that will ever happen.

I'm happy for you. I've never even heard of 6-7-8. Is it a type of program specifically for SP21 and do you have a link to a site where I could check it out?

It is orphanware from a company called StickySoft6-7-8 designed by Hal Marcus. It also is configured to allow playing either Blackjack or Spanish 21 and will generate indices.

Once billed as the 'swiss army knife' of BJ software -

Hal Marcus was the first, I believe, to come up with a "count-weighted basic strategy".
