Default Maryland Cops: Card Counting Is Illegal -VIDEO

Just saw this reference. Wonder what your opinions might be?

Tussle between casinos, card counters claims state as battleground

A high-rolling blackjack player, Justin Mills, said a driver in a luxury car hired by Maryland Live picked him up from his Silver Spring home on Feb. 20 to usher him to the casino at Arundel Mills mall. Hours later, the 23-year-old videographer found himself leaving the casino by a back door, hailing a taxi, and paying for the $75 ride home after he was accused of being a card counter.

"As a result of your actions, you are not permitted on the premises of 'Maryland Live! Casino' permanently," the casino told him in a letter. A video posted to YouTube by Justin Mills shows Maryland Live security personnel escorting him from the casino after accusing him of being a card counter. The long-running tussle between casinos and card counters has come to Maryland, home to five casinos and another on the way. Experts said it was only a matter of time.

    Thanks for the post,

If you look at the picture you will see this AP is being treated as if he were a criminal, two armed cops, casino surveillance at each end of the hall watching, listening, and all for what, using his brain! I will say this, if you back me off I am not going anywhere or following you any where, but leave on my own accord, if you put your hands on me then the situation will explode into a physical one. I am well aware of these things going on, it has never been the case that I was back-roomed or touched, but my associates have been. You never give in to anything but just leave.

Justin should now sue since the state see's nothing wrong as far as assault, they lust for the tax money, mere touching on the arm was assault, the treatment he received was false arrest, Sue them Justin, Sue, Sue those rotten MOFU's.

    according to the article:
"Mills does not dispute that he counts cards, or that he was asked to leave the casino. Rather, Mills' attorneys allege in court documents that a security official assaulted him by grabbing his arm and "bending it behind his back." Court documents also say Mills was improperly detained in a back corridor by security personnel and police before being permitted to leave.
A District Court prosecutor "reviewed the evidence and found it to be insufficient to proceed with criminal charges," said Heather Stone, a spokeswoman for the Anne Arundel County state's attorney's office.
    "

hmmm, well i watched the video and it is clear that the casino thug grabbed Mills arm forcefully in a way that probably inflicted pain and in a way that physically detained him and degraded him as a peaceful human being, for no apparent justifiable reason.
if someone were to do that to say my wife or one of my children in a similar manner as i could see it done to Mills in the video, i'd sure have a problem with such treatment of them. i'd be outraged and demanding justice against that thug.
so the District Court prosecutor finds insufficient evidence to criminally charge the casino thug? what a friggin nit wit! outrageous!

Not that different from what happens at the Cannery or some other North Vegas stores. I'm prepared to be jerked around by security for counting, we're all aware of that risk. If they put their hands on me or the police arrest me, then it's lawyer time. That can be a very high EV play.

Even if simply back-roomed it's "kidnapping" and high-EV.

Default Is NOT the key statement that cops state card counting is illegal....when it is NOT?

    Zen:

I know you edited the post and thread a bit. No issue there and thanks for cleaning it up. BUT really isn't the key question or point that the cop says that in his jurisdiction, card counting IS illegal? When it specifically IS legal in his state?

In 2011 for example, when it had legalized casino gambling, Ohio actually considered making the rule that card counting was illegal.

    See: http://www.dispatch.com/content/stor...-stand-on.html

Luckily, they did not go that route and specifically stated card counting was a legal activity. And also most fortuitously, every jurisdiction that I know or have researched, card counting has SPECIFICALLY been expressed a legal activity. (provided no device used to assist)

My main anger is at the police misstating the law and using that as pressure for the "suspect"/"assaulted party" to show the casino his ID. First, as I understand the story, he was INVITED to play there; they sent a car to pick him up. Yes, we all know that marketing departments and pit crews/surveillance may NOT be on the same page. I think I agree with most of you; the actions taken against the guy ARE legally reprehensible and cause for alarm and possible litigation. I hope he takes it to court (guess he is already represented). One issue will be damages, though. I don't know if there was much monetary value to his injury. I think you would have to have a very, very good lawyer who could appeal to a jury. I would in NO way waive a jury and allow a judge to decide this case. It could be a good opportunity to punish casinos and warn them from similar action IF a proper jury was seated. I think I could make a good legal argument and courtroom argument to a JURY; not just a judge that this man was very wrongfully treated. Didn't Grosjean (and I know he isn't necessarily a favorite here) actually win a similar type action?

I thought it was just an ignorant security guard?
It's not illegal and he has a chance of at least a small settlement.

I have 2 friends that just won a Vegas case, represented by Nerserian for $300,000 give or take, and they were not treated nearly as bad as this young man. There will be a big settlement, as there should be.

That cop was, is, a tool for the casino, and is a very ignorant bully. I wish Justin had forcefully made his point that he was assaulted, he should have been far more outraged, but he is a young man, and was intimidated being out numbers 6 to 1, and the coppers had guns, and they were loaded, WITH REAL BULLETS!!! He should have never given ID since violence was already used against him and there was a real possibility that they would come after him again where he lives. I want blood!!!

I second that, the casino should get the shit sued out of them for their thuggish behavior. I also seen the video where the casino goons assaulted the patron at hand. If the patron would have grabbed the casino employees or cops in the manner he was handled they would have no doubt called that assault. The cops ignorance is legendary, they automatically take sides with the entity and say card counting is illegal! Why? Because were living in a corporate fascist environment where the individual can never stand up to the corporation, that's why. What a fucking joke!

The casino goons think they are serving justice. He should have spit in the face of the casino manager and threatened him that he is going to run an army of card counters through his casino for messing with him.
