Yes, you're right, tithing can mean either a tenth part of one's profits to support the clergy or, as you say, for some charitable purpose. When you give help and money to the poor, helpless and needy you are giving to God. It's really not a matter of whether there is a need to go through a church organization. Some people give to both. It's between you and God what you do and what you believe.

BTW, it's good to see you are still here on the forum. I hope all is going well with you.

How about that Christian counting team, headed by Colin at BJ Apprentice? Does the team tithe 10%?

One thing to think about in a Christian card counting team is "when" to do the tithing. We all know that the roller coaster effect will sometimes send our profits soaring, but that there will be enough downturns to leave us with our real edge of 1% to 2% over time. If a team tithed each session, it would end up tithing large amounts from winning sessions, but be unable to recoup those tithes when the losing sessions came. The sensible way to tithe, I think, would be to tithe out of the year's overall profits up to what its calculated win rate is determined to be. In other words, anything over what the calculated win rate would produce is really only money on loan.

Yes. Its only appropriate to tithe at the time of harvest, the breaking of the holy bank.

A more zealous team might tithe with each winning session! Such generosity would certainly please the Lord. Christian card counters, however, would be well advised to seek the perfect will of God prior to forming teams. It smacks a little of trying to enlist God to support their cause of card counting for a living, which may not be God's will for them at all. Name: smiley-think004.gif

I stood in line and when I got to the front I gave frock-collared minister a black. He did a double-take and then praised my generosity: "Son the Lord thanks you, you will feed many people in need of nourishment today!" I told him God bless and went on across the street.
