    Default Tithes

I want to add to this little ditty of a thread. First tithing which is the first tenth of your wages given back to God. Not a requirement a challenge to God and the result should be abundance it is written in the bible regarding faith.Second catholics don't think gambling is bad unless it takes away from the family or other responsabilities. blackchipjim

    I agree with you.

You seldom hear a Catholic priest talk about tithing, but it does have a Biblical origin. However, this year my pastor did talk about tithing, and in his opinion, all Catholics should tithe, that is, give ten percent of their gross to God. Of course, he retreated to saying it is a personal choice, and each person must make up his or her own mind. The only thing I would say is that anyone who has contractual commitments, such as mortgages, prior to considering tithing, must take that into consideration. In many cases, a person cannot begin tithing because of these prior commitments, else they might find themselves in the soup lines. I don't think that is God's intent.

Well Aslan our pastor has given us a money back garuantee. It's not as much of prior commitment as it is a lack of faith. This is the only thing God supposedlly layed down on us as a challenge to our faith in his power. I guess I have failed this challenge but hope to one day. All our fruits are given to us by him and we are to give the first back. Able's sacrifice was rejected by God because it wasn't the first or the best. blackchipjim

You're getting your testaments mixed up. Tithing was required in the Old Testament, whereas New Testament believers are asked to give generously, which may be much more or less than tithing.

Recently, I was listening to Bruce Springsteen talk as he prepared to cover a Harry Chapin song in concert. He mentioned how Harry used to do a concert one night for his benefit, and the second night he'd do one for a local charity.
I got to thinking that since I play BJ as more of a hobby than anything else, this would be a great way for me to give back. So, now when I play, it's one night for me and whatever profits I make the next day go to World Hunger Year, a charity Harry stated with a gent by the name of Bill Ayers.
Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out just how far one can go.

I thought that Christians believed in the entire Bible, not just the New Testament. I have not studied the portion on tithing, but I suspect the concept is still valid, just as the ten commandments are. I know it has not been a requirement of many Christian denominations, but that does not mean it should not be. I wish we had an expert here. If I get time, I'll study it myself.

    Default Beliefs

Aslan we do believe in the old and new testaments just as any would follow a guide. A person doesn't have to study tithing to understand it because it is a simple attitude in life. If everything comes from God and you realize this in the truest sense are you not apt to reciprocate to the person that makes it all possible? As a child that recieves a large inheritence would they not make sure that the person that gave them it was properlly thanked if it were possibly? blackchipjim

Even more than that. If we truly realize that everything comes from God, including ourselves, then we will want to give Him everything we have, not limited to a tenth, although that is fitting amount.
