Default Top Ten Myths about the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

Top Ten Myths about the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

Myth #8: God gave the land to the Jews, so the Arabs are the occupiers.
    excerpt -

Myth #3 – The Arabs missed an opportunity to have their own state in 1947.

The U.N. recommendation to partition Palestine was rejected by the Arabs. Many commentators today point to this rejection as constituting a missed “opportunity” for the Arabs to have had their own state. But characterizing this as an “opportunity” for the Arabs is patently ridiculous. The Partition plan was in no way, shape, or form an “opportunity” for the Arabs.

First of all, as already noted, Arabs were a large majority in Palestine at the time, with Jews making up about a third of the population by then, due to massive immigration of Jews from Europe (in 1922, by contrast, a British census showed that Jews represented only about 11 percent of the population).

Additionally, land ownership statistics from 1945 showed that Arabs owned more land than Jews in every single district of Palestine, including Jaffa, where Arabs owned 47 percent of the land while Jews owned 39 percent – and Jaffa boasted the highest percentage of Jewish-owned land of any district. In other districts, Arabs owned an even larger portion of the land. At the extreme other end, for instance, in Ramallah, Arabs owned 99 percent of the land. In the whole of Palestine, Arabs owned 85 percent of the land, while Jews owned less than 7 percent, which remained the case up until the time of Israel’s creation.

Yet, despite these facts, the U.N. partition recommendation had called for more than half of the land of Palestine to be given to the Zionists for their “Jewish State”. The truth is that no Arab could be reasonably expected to accept such an unjust proposal. For political commentators today to describe the Arabs’ refusal to accept a recommendation that their land be taken away from them, premised upon the explicit rejection of their right to self-determination, as a “missed opportunity” represents either an astounding ignorance of the roots of the conflict or an unwillingness to look honestly at its history.

Still pushing anti-Israeli, pro-Palestinian propaganda, I see. I thought by now you would have learned. There must be something in your profile you're not telling us. People don't adopt these positions without some deep-seated reason-- an ax to grind or some personal stake in it. Some day you'll have to level with us.
Wrong will be right, when Aslan comes in sight
At the sound of his roar, sorrows will be no more,
When he bares his teeth, winter meets its death,
And when he shakes his mane, we shall have spring again.

We have here a mod who cares about a small minority of people pushed off their land and continually bullied ever since. Kudos to the mod and may many more stand up for rights of oppressed and subjugated minorities. Do you by any chance remember the US War of Independence? Has Israel as your God's Chosen Ones biblical bullshit (written by Jews!) blinded you to human rights?

Hey, you Palestinians! We hate the Jews as much as you do. We are going to massacre every living Jew in Israel, so we want you guys to leave the area for a while so we can get the job done. Then you can move back and live in the land including the land the UN and Great Britain gave to the Jews. We only care about UN resolutions when they suit us, and we do not respect the age old convention that to the victor belongs the spoils, unless, of course, WE are the victors. The Ottoman Empire, well, that was righteous, but the defeat of the Ottoman, that was clearly not the way it was meant to be. It is only right when WE win. Heh heh.

You do know what you can do with your pretense to stand up for the rights of poor oppressed and subjugated minorities, don't you, Mr. Katweezel?

No - pushing PEACE. I advocate that the Palestinians embrace full-throttle Gandhian non-violent/non-cooperative resistance.
We need a Palestinian Gandhi. (a Jewish Gandhi would be nice too)

I suppose you are referring to the Australian aborigines... Here's a brief history to get you up to date. The Dutch 'discovered' the Great Southern Land about 200 years before the English, but they saw only desert and abandoned the idea of claiming it. Then Captain Cook planted an English flag and stake on the beach and from that moment England 'owned' it. At this time an estimated 3M blacks lived here. They are thought to have walked across from India, during a time when the sea level may have been 100M lower than it is today. Soon the slaughter (by white, Euro christians) began and continued well into the 1800s. The indigenous population is now around 300,000.

But all this has been attended to as recently the then-PM Kevin Rudd officially apologized for all the white past sins and said SORRY. That took care of that.

Now, isn't there even one shred of compassion in you for the Palestinians? Not even for the children?

My heart aches for anyone caught up in these conflicts. The human race is one body and anything that harms one part of the body, harms the entire body. Mother Teresa often referred to persons diseased, dying or otherwise suffering as Jesus in distressing disguise.
