Thread: The ZenZone Migration discussion thread

    Default Either way..

I could really go either way on this, but I tend to agree with Ken that it might be better to split it off.

There is really no shortage of forums open to oddball political/conspiracy opinions of all types, and there's really no reason it needs to be part of a blackjack forum. For those coming here seeking solid blackjack information, the zen zone can be seen as "noise".

It also does diminish the credibility of the site somewhat, I think. I can see new people wondering why the zen zone is here.

On the other hand, I don't think it does THAT much damage, and many people probably think of it as a good distraction from blackjack, and some entertainment value. But this end is also served well by splitting it off.

I do stay out, more disinterested than upset. But the sheer volume of zz posts swamps the stuff that actually does interest me. The tail rather seems to be wagging the dog.

    Default This is crap

I came to this site searching how to make $$$ on blackjack, and that it did. But this site offers so much more. Marshals area is a great place to talk foots, and discuss capping angles. Anything else and just general topic areas are entertaining to say the least. The Zen Zone, well, its different. But in my opinion needed. If you can sit at a BJ table for hours counting, you know how taxing it can be mentally.(at least for me, lol). ZZ is a place to flex the brain tissue with some pretty deap or off the wall issues.
Frankly, I'm tired of things being taken from me. Take this, limit that, WEEEE know what is best for you. Fuk'em, if ya don't like whats being posted, fukin leave.

Ha! I never noticed that 'New Posts' tab before... how long has it been there?
I think that ZZ posts should be delimited from showing at that Tab.

In fact the New Posts window serves NO purpose, I beleive. zg

I agree with both London Colin and LuvMy$$$ and several others. I find this an excellent place to get a laugh and do a little stress relief.

I will say this. I lurked on this and other sites a long time as guest. It was the ZenZone that actually made me want to post. It's interesting to have so many points of view. Other than the New Post link showing ZZ links, I can't really see how it hurts the BJinfo Stuff. (unless of course, there is a $$ issue involved.)

Always, I think. Certainly for as long as I can remember at blackjacktournaments.com, and for all of the short time I have been a member here.

I find it very convenient. Rather than peek inside every sub-forum to see if it contains anything new, a single click brings everything to you. (And if there is nothing new, you find out at a glance.)

I too was a long-time lurker. But, to be perfectly honest, it was the ZenZone that made me delay signing up for as long as I did.

I cast my vote to split it off

Well said, Forrest. Run, Forrest. Run! And he ran; while his calipers fell off... Yes the Zen Zone is/was very different, as you mentioned. The different areas catered for almost everyone or anyone who wanted to express, or who just like reading other stuff from posters who have at least one thing in common: casinos/blackjack. Too much Math can get a little dry sometimes and some light/heavy/informative/entertaining reading may have provided a nice break from tedium or repetition. It was also a nice distraction from the mainstream media. Here, you see the familiar names and they become more personal.

Sure you don't like what some say, but nobody forced you to read it, did they... And if someone says something I disagree with, what's the big deal? It may have opened me to more expansive ideas, in ways I did not imagine... But I've personally found the ZZ to be above all, entertaining. With its seriousness, its light-heartedness, its poke-fun-at, its topical comment, its wisdom, its incisive, sometimes abrasive comment on sensitive topics that are off limits to all but the brave and fearless... and much more. Yes zg; you grandfathered it all the while, and I applaud your interest, motivation, persistence-under-stress, and willingness to go where few dare. Well done.

    Default Grass police over-active

I sent a shipment of grass, zg, but I did not pack it well enough and it failed to get through customs. Anyway, I tried to award you... At least I had this photo taken as proof.

Zg mentioned his last name in the Bjinfo interview, so it's fair play to post his You Tube interview http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjmMEVSmduw explaining how he helped Hilary Clinton make $100,000 from $1000 at 10:57 into the clip.

With the greatest of respect Kat, this is precisely the mindset that allows, and in some cases encourages, individuals to cross the line between expressing a valid view, and publishing stuff that is untrue, unvalidated, offensive and transgresses what might be considered to be decent. If you take the reasoning to the extreme conclusion, why not have a section of the Forum showing extreme pornographic images? You could apply the same test -people who don't like it should stay away, and if some disagree with it what's the big deal?

The end result of abusing a facility of free speech is that it is eventually withdrawn by those who have allowed it in the first place. As I've inferred before, like it or not free speech isn't unconditional and goes hand in hand with a degree of self-regulation and accountability. Failure to apply these puts it at risk. The "if you don't like it, don't read/watch it" standpoint is naive at the very least, and dangerous at a more profound level as it can always be used to justify stifling free speech on grounds of "offends public decency and is not in the public interest".

It could be argued that the anonymity the internet allows hasn't enhanced free speech but rather undermined it in that the amount of inaccurate, unsubstantiated and offensive material that has been published by anonymous individuals has brought the whole concept of free speech and freedom to publish into disrepute.

A quick test - that inaccurate quote attributed to Begin you published a few weeks back. Would you have published something like it under your own name in a reputable journal or periodical in Australia in the knowledge that you might be sued by the individual concerned in a court of law? I doubt it.
