It was called the Easy Street Pub on Florida Ave., and now, fortuitously, it's a run-down strip club called Coconutz. So I went inside.
What a powerful and moving experience. There were only 3-4 customers in there and an ugly stripper. I looked around for a Pac-Man machine and there was none, so I looked for a place that there would have once been a Pac-Man machine. There was a corner area across from the bar with some outlets, that must have been the place. And what stands there now is an ATM and a cigarette machine.
And then it hit me, a satori. ATM and cigarettes. Money and addiction. It almost felt like Ken Uston left a message there for all whom would follow in his footsteps, a warning- watch out, there used to be a game here, but now there is only this.
I stood in the spot where you would have stood if you were playing a video game there, finished my beer and pondered what this meant. Then I went back and played, and what a strange, strange night. Glad I went.
