This being the case, shouldn't we be thinking about what can be done to prevent it from happening again? Free enterprise clearly cannot be allowed to be completely free. Time and time again it has shown us that it cannot be trusted when great sums of money are for the taking. I am not a socialist. But after such debacles it is hard to be a complete capitalist either. We need enough regulation of free enterprise to keep it honest, and as little regulation as to keep to free. We are becoming a limited capitalist state. We must guard against becoming a complete socialist state. Regulation, not ownership, seems to be the proper course, and great care not to wreck the ship in steering this new direction.
    WTF?

The bailout was simply Socialism for the very wealthy. And yet when someone calls to have a simple universal healthcare available in the U.S (like every other major Western developed country) it gets called "Socialism"...

The republicans never learned from history. The reason one of their "think tanks" (stink tanks is a a better term) is named "the Hoover Institute" after the republican led executive branch directly responsible for the Great Depression.

And if the GOP is still alive in thirty years (my guess is that it'll probably be dead in ten) expect them to name a future think tank the "George W. Bush Institute On Prosperity".

The GOP is THAT clueless. The reason they campaign on preventing Gay marriage while the average American can barely pay his monthly bills and put food on the table. On every level the republican Party represents the veiled face of a cold, cruel, mean spirited idelogy of nonsense.

You can't find any example of Conservatism being sucessfull in the long run. But don't expect reality from changing the minds of a republican. He'll gladly let your family starve to death in order to make the rich filthy rich.

No, the REAL story and CULPRIT is the government STEALING the cost of living and purchasing power of middle and lower class working families with a dishonest and illegal TAX called INFLATION. That is why people couldn't make their payments. This thing starts at the top, the highest echelon of players and entities who are above reproach.

Oh, and we don't even officially know the true cost of inflation because since Reagan the gummint has been tricking the CPI and COL calculations. zg

If you Democrats would quit lining your pockets and your friends pockets with the money you collect in taxes ostensibly to feed the poor, maybe then we could get somewhere with the reforms you promise but always fail to deliver. You're worse then a bunch of TV evangelists begging poor old ladies to send their last dollar so that God can bless them. Pullleezzzzze! Son't preach to Republicans about a cold, cruel mean spirited ideology--yours is a wolf in sheep's clothing!!
